i found this little "arrangement" tucked away between some big wooden thing and a building... i'd probably passed it multiple times, but never really SAW it until i had a camera in my hands...

this is actually how the picture came out (nasty grey). turns out the paper i was using was old. but i actually kinda like it :)

The similarity of tone draws me in. Full view gives me the gift of all the pattern changes with each surface. I like this one alot. Would be a great print.

This morning while I'm waiting for the first cup, it dawns on me what about this picture "works". It is subject to the same problems with tone that pencil artists run into; sameness. What makes the subject stand out? The focal point isn't the subject at all, it's the dark spot behind it. The flowerpot just gets in the way. Framed nicely, at that. Perhaps a bit overanalytical for a still life, but a good lesson to remember. Especially when drawing, painting, or editing digital pictures.
